For SPECTRA: SDR/ADS-B for Android · Last updated: 12 October 2026

Privacy by design

SPECTRA: SDR/ADS-B (referred to as “SPECTRA” in this policy) is a local-first software-defined radio application. It receives and processes radio signals on the Android device, using an RTL-SDR connected by USB OTG. The app does not require an account, cloud service, or Internet connection for radio reception, audio playback, ADS-B decoding, or use of its bundled offline map.

This policy describes information the current SPECTRA application accesses, processes, or stores. It does not describe independent processing by Android, Google Play, a device manufacturer, or other apps.

1. Who we are

SPECTRA: SDR/ADS-B is developed and published by IdejuMagija Labs. Questions about this policy can be sent to info@idejumagija.eu.

2. Information SPECTRA processes

Radio and receiver data

SPECTRA processes radio-frequency samples from a compatible USB receiver. Depending on the selected mode, this can include IQ samples, demodulated audio, spectrum and waterfall data, signal levels, receiver diagnostics, RDS information, and scanner state. In ADS-B mode the app also decodes Mode-S messages and aircraft information such as ICAO addresses, callsigns, altitude, velocity, and positions when those values are broadcast and successfully decoded.

This data is processed locally to provide receiver, audio, aircraft-list, and offline-map functionality. ADS-B aircraft state is held in the active local session; SPECTRA does not send received radio data or aircraft observations to an IdejuMagija Labs server.

App settings and favorites

SPECTRA stores settings and user-created radio data on the device to restore the workspace and receiver configuration. This can include tuned frequency and mode, bandwidth, tuning step, gain, squelch, PPM correction, scanner settings, saved favorite names and categories, and interface preferences. These settings are not transmitted by SPECTRA.

Optional device location

If you grant Android coarse or fine location permission, SPECTRA can use the device's location to center the ADS-B map when you request it and to provide an optional receiver reference for surface CPR position decoding. While an ADS-B session is active and permission is granted, SPECTRA may receive location updates from Android's location providers. Location is not required for radio reception or map use; denying permission only removes those location-assisted functions.

The location value is used locally in the active session. Receiver diagnostics written to the Android system log may include the receiver-reference coordinates, provider, age, and reported accuracy. SPECTRA does not upload this information. Android or a location provider may process location independently under the device's location settings and that provider's privacy terms.

USB receiver information

To operate and diagnose a connected receiver, SPECTRA may access technical information exposed by Android and the USB device, such as USB vendor/product identifiers, device name, serial number when Android permits access, tuner type, and supported receiver settings. This information is used locally and is not sent by SPECTRA to IdejuMagija Labs.

Audio recordings

When you press REC in WFM, NFM, or AM mode, SPECTRA records the demodulated PCM audio being sent to playback and saves a standard WAV file in the Android media library at Music/SPECTRA/. WFM recordings are stereo; NFM and AM recordings are mono. The filename includes the local start time, tuned frequency, and mode. SPECTRA does not start or upload recordings automatically.

These recordings are stored in the device's shared media library, where they may be visible to the user and compatible media apps under Android's storage controls. They remain on the device until you delete them or the device otherwise removes them. You control any later sharing or export through Android or another app.

3. Information SPECTRA does not collect or transmit

The current app does not include advertising, an advertising SDK, analytics, a crash-reporting SDK, an account system, or a SPECTRA cloud service. The Android manifest does not request the Internet permission, and SPECTRA has no in-app network transfer for receiver data, settings, favorites, location, recordings, or aircraft observations. The app does not sell this information or provide it to advertisers or data brokers.

Android, Google Play, a device manufacturer, or an enabled system location provider may process information independently of SPECTRA. For example, Google Play may process app download, purchase, update, review, or diagnostics information, while an Android location provider may use network-based services if enabled on the device. Such processing is governed by those providers' settings, terms, and privacy policies, not by SPECTRA.

4. Permissions and hardware access

SPECTRA uses Android USB Host permission to communicate with a compatible RTL-SDR that you connect and authorize. Coarse and fine location permissions are optional and are used only for the location-assisted ADS-B functions described above. Refusing location access does not disable the receiver or offline map.

Foreground-service and wake-lock access allow an active receiver/audio session to continue while the screen or app is covered. These permissions support local reception and playback; they do not provide SPECTRA with a network connection.

5. Offline maps and third-party components

The ADS-B map, country geography, and airport reference data are bundled with the app and operate offline. SPECTRA does not load map tiles or aircraft feeds from an online service.

The current build uses SPECTRA's own RTL2832U/R82xx USB receiver backend; it does not include the former librtlsdr or libusb libraries. ADS-B message decoding uses local rs1090/jet1090 components. Third-party software and bundled-data attributions are available in SPECTRA's in-app third-party license notices.

6. Data retention and deletion

App settings and favorites remain in local app storage until you remove them where supported, clear SPECTRA's app storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app. ADS-B aircraft observations and a location reference are used in the local receiver session and are not maintained in a SPECTRA online account or server database.

WAV recordings are separate user files in Music/SPECTRA/; delete them using Android's file or media app. Uninstalling SPECTRA does not necessarily delete media files saved in shared storage.

7. Data security

SPECTRA is designed to keep receiver processing and app settings on the Android device. Protection of local app storage, system logs, USB access, and shared media also depends on Android, device security settings, and other apps with access to those resources. No electronic storage method can be guaranteed absolutely secure.

8. Children's privacy

SPECTRA is a specialist software-defined radio utility and is not designed or marketed as a service for children. Its receiver functionality does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Google Play and purchases

If you obtain SPECTRA through Google Play, Google may process information associated with downloading, purchasing, licensing, updating, reviewing, or diagnosing the application. IdejuMagija Labs does not control Google's independent processing. Please refer to Google's privacy information for details.

10. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as SPECTRA's features, data practices, legal requirements, or distribution methods change. Revised versions will be published at the policy URL above with an updated effective date. Material changes to app data practices should also be reflected in applicable app-store disclosures.
